Some of us came up in a time where Hip Hop was thought very little of unless you were a part of it's culture. A lot of people were affected by it but didn't realize it at the time because it wasn't all over the place like it is now. Hip Hop now is at a state where I'm sure other genres of music and generations of artist were when Hip Hop started taking over. I'm sure the artists then felt like Hip Hop was not real music but little did they know what it was unleashing on the world.
Hip Hop was really allowing people to become artists without any real musical or vocal abilities. Swag was really born with the arrival of Hip Hop but it was called MCing. Nobody had to have any other talent than to be a Mic Controller or basically entertain the crowd. You had to have Swag in order to keep a crowds attention. Today's artists that first benefited from the rise of Hip Hop feel like the substance of the music has decreased along with the lyrical qualities of the artists. This is true to an extent but you have to realize that kids these days have a different view of life than when Hip Hop first started. Back then Hip Hop was the voice of the poor communities and when I say poor I meant poor. Back then if you didn't have it, you suffered until you could get it.
These days kids aren't waiting on any handouts and their not being quiet about their feelings on things. Today it's about getting money instead of just getting heard. There is room for all of the music Hip Hop has to offer but the money value is different now. You really should Love doing the music that you do because Artists are making a lot of money but the days of the Cash Money and No Limit deals are no longer. You have to really strategize and know more about your fanbase than you use to because if your doing True Hip Hop your Fanbase will be more spread out and smaller but they are loyal. Trust that Hip Hop is alive and is everywhere. Whatever music you do just go harder and find your place.
